Happy Birthday to Jason’s Dad!

Here’s a birthday card for Jason’s dad! I always have the hardest time with cards for guys — I usually end up making a card with leaves or something — so this time I decided I’d start with the color scheme and go from there.

I instantly thought of brown and blue, but I didn’t want to make it look like a baby card so didn’t want to use baby blue, so decided to go with this “pool” blue color. It was all easy from there!

I used Staedtler watercolor pencils from Hero Arts to color the present — click on the picture to make it larger so you can see where I put the different colors. Just scribble the color on — don’t worry about being neat! Just don’t press hard enough to make grooves in the paper. Then go over everything with a wet brush — I used more water to blend the colors on the front of the present, not as much on the sides and top. I worked on each side of the present seperately and started each side by painting a line of water along the endges — this helps keep the colors from running — say from the left side to the front for example.

Leave me a comment if you have any questions! And leave me a comment if you have ideas for guy cards too! Especially ideas for guys that aren’t into fishing, sports, or hunting!

Supplies: Hero Arts Polka-Dot Present (E3773), Script Birthday (C3956), and Staedtler watercolor pencils (MC011). The numbers on the pencils are 30, 3, 50, and 80. Ribbon by American Crafts. Ancient Page Chocolate ink.
