Pedal Power Wildflower Ride!

Here’s Jason and I after we finished the Pedal Power Wildflower Ride!
Read on for a ride report and more pictures!

The ride was about 2 hours west of Austin in the Texas “hill country” — and that’s a good way to describe the ride too — we rode up and down lots of hills!

Here’s an average hill to give you an idea! There were plenty that were longer/steeper but I didn’t want to stop and get a picture of any of those — one of the tricks to riding hills is to keep your momentum going.  You can click on any of these pictures to see them larger.

The day started off with some drizzle. Then it was cloudy and humid. Then the sun came out in full force and it was hot and humid — I looked it up when we got back home and it said we got up to 87. Then the wind kicked up — which helped with the humidity — but the gusts made staying upright a challenge! Going down one hill at 30+ mph and I was blasted by a cross wind and almost blew over!

The ankle didn’t like all the hills and the chip and seal road, so we decided not to do the 36 and did the 25 instead. It was a hard choice to make but I think I did the right thing.

There were plenty of well stocked rest stops during the ride which helped ease us on our way — I drank 4 waterbottles of water — 96 oz — and 1 of sports drink!

And then at the end there was a spaghetti lunch — YUM. And a nice nurse gave me an ice pack to put on my ankle.

All in all a great way to spend a Saturday morning! Stay tuned to for the next post and see how we spent the afternoon…

Congrats to you both on a good ride. Those hills look like fun and I’m glad you survived. Sorry the wildflowers were not at their best this year. Thanks for sharing.

I know you made it ok but how did Jason do ? Looks like a great area for a bike ride.

  3. Jason made it pretty well! I go uphill faster than him but he goes downhill faster than me so it works out in the end.
