Is it stitched or stamped?

Is it stitched or is it stamped? That’s what my husband asked when he saw this Mother’s Day card I made for his mom!

This card was inspired by a combination of my friend Barbara’s COW (Card of the Week) on the Hero Arts website, and my new friend Nancy Taylor’s faux stitching tip! I just met Nancy in Sacramento last week — she is the best!

Here’s what to do:

  1. Emboss a Hero Arts Stamp Stitches image and emboss — here I used VersaMagic Jumbo Java and embossed in clear.
  2. Use a pin to pierce the paper along the stitches.
  3. With a needle and embroidery thread, add a little bit of thread to the beginning and end of the stitches. This is Nancy’s perfect touch! Viola!

Here’s a closeup of the stitching — you can click on either image to make it larger:

Supplies: Hero Arts Sitched Mom (C4151) and Stitched Layered Flower (E4156), Paper Source patterned paper and green cardstock, Bazzill light blue and light purple cardstock, Fabriano notecard, VersaMagic Jumbo Java ink, Hero Arts clear embossing powder.

  1. Lisa, The card looks great. I am glad you could use the tip on sewing. I bet your husbands mother has to touch it to see if it is real or not too.

  2. I love that look! You definitely make me want to run out to my local stamp store and get those stamps!!! I just got the new sunflower stamp yesterday and I need more. I really love all of these stitched stamps since I don’t own a sewing machine.

  3. Hi Shannon! I have a sewing machine, but I haven’t mastered it yet and feel much more confident with stamps!

    Happy Stamping,
    Lisa

  4. Hi Nancy! I’ll lt you know what my MIL says! It was so funny, I had the card sitting on my husband’s desk and he picked it up and really had to look at it — ha ha! He was impressed!

  5. Oh, wow! I’m impressed, too. What a great card! And a fun technique, too. Thanks for sharing. :D
