Chicago Part I: Dessert, popcorn & the Water Tower

Saturday evening after CHA was done for the day Karen, Todd, and I decided to check out downtown Chicago. I’d never been there before — another first! We took the “blue line” train from Rosemont. First stop was finding dinner — Todd was craving a steak, so we went to a steakhouse disguised as an Italian restaurant — Phil Stefani’s 437 Rush — I had some yummy gnocci! Then we took pictures of dessert!

I thought I was full but Karen convinced me to eat some of these yummy berry tarts. I’m glad she did because those berries were GOOD! YUM.

We walked around for a bit and then Karen spotted this famous Chicago popcorn shop — Garrett’s Popcorn. It’s so popular that Karen waited in line for 40 minutes to get the goods — cheese and carmel popcorn mixed together — it’s a Chicago tradition that Karen knew about — mmmmmm!

Next we strolled down to see the Water Tower and Pumping Station. It was built in 1869 and is claimed to be the only building remaning after the Great Chicago Fire of 1871.

What a sight! Stay tuned for Part II tomorrow, featuring fireworks, crazy night shots, and more!

  2. That was a fun night. Amazing weather in Chicago for late July. Hey you, no pictures in popcorn shop!

  3. Those blueberries look really good. Is it the camera, or are they really 2 inches wide?!?
