On October 29th Jason and I went hiking at Doeskin Ranch, a tract of land in the Balcones Canyonlands National Wildlife Refuge. It is about an hour northwest of Austin.
I took a bunch of pictures (gallery), including this one of a Great Plains Ladies’ Tresses Orchid. Yep, there are orchids in Texas — 54 types — 52 species and 2 varieties! For more info on Texas Orchids, check out Joe Liggio’s Wild Orchids of Texas.
We had fun — it was so peaceful and relaxing. Didn’t see another soul until we got down to the creek. I really love this area, it’s on of my favorite places to ride my bike.
