merry and bright

Does the photo on the cards look familiar? (Hint: See banner.) Too bad the sun wasn’t out when I took these card photos — they really are “merry and bright”! The banner photo is the true color.

I took it back in November on this day at Indiangrass Preserve and thought it would be perfect for cards for my plant/nature/bird nut friends! As I was taking the picture, I remembered seeing the bird with the branch stamp at Impress Rubberstamps and I was so excited.

The plant is possumhaw holly, one of our native Texas holly trees. And the birds really do eat it! If you want to attract birds to your yard — and live in central Texas — get one of these trees. Make sure you get a native one and not some improved thing with bigger/brighter/more berries, because the birds don’t seem to care for those at all.

Had lots of fun making this card, and these went really quick — about 5 minutes per card once I had everything setup and a rhythm going. I liked the card without the photo too — reminded me sorta of letterpress — but went ahead and put it on anyhow since that was my big plan!

I got carried away and stamped the fronts of the envelopes and the backs of the cards too. I wrote on the back where the photo was taken, added my initials and the year.

Supplies: All stamps by Hero Arts except the two birds which are by Impress. Love the flourishes, they are just too cool. VersaColor Baby Blue pigment ink and Colorbox Chestnut pigment ink. Used a punch by EK Success to create the little photo corner. Fabriano notecards. I toyed with using Scarlet VersaColor in place of the Baby Blue, and might try some of those too!

Oh and here’s a tip — you can get wallet sized photos done at 1 hour places now — I never knew that until I went to get these printed. Hurrah for modern technology!

  1. I’m a fairly new stamper since I really just started about 18 months ago. I very quickly became a Hero Arts Addict…and I’m not even looking for a 12 step program! Just when I think they can’t put anything out any cuter than what I have…here come the new releases! I really enjoy seeing your cards in the blog. The ones today are wonderful! My only problem, if you can call it that, is the only real stamp store in our area closed 6 months age. Thank goodness for wonderful online dealers! The two that I order from are both wonderful. Hero Arts obviously attracts folks who believe in great customer service!

  2. OMGosh these are so beautiful. Love both the ones with and without the pictures. The ones without look very elegant to me.

  3. Absolutely gorgeous!

  4. just fabulous!! Those flourish stamps have been selling like hotcakes for me…I adore your use of them! I am anxiously awaiting the reveal of the new line on the retailer site_ I didn’t order the debuts because i close for january-our weather is too crazy here and its a good time for a little rest.Keep those ideas coming!

  5. This post was under “you might also like” and I remember these cards being among my favourites when you first posted them! They are as beautiful now as they were in 2006.How is it possible that it’s been that long!?  :-)
