a simple hello

I’ve been traveling more lately and wanted something fun to do while hanging about in airports and such. It had to be portable, fun and relaxing. I thought and thought — hmmm. The knitting craze is still going strong around here — so then it hit me — crochet! My Grandma — Beem as I called her — taught me to crochet before she died. I had to be 7 or 8. Picked up a Klutz book on crochet and it all came flooding back to me.

I told my Grandma who is still alive about it, and while she doesn’t crochet herself, she told me all about how Great-Grandma used to crochet all the time. So I decided that the first thing I made that wasn’t too lumpy and bumpy would be for her — it was this flower. I attached it to the ribbon with a safety pin so that she can take it off the card front and use it as a pin — or whatever else!

Oh and as you can probably tell from the photo, it’s pretty cloudy here. Sure hope we get some rain, we really need it. If you have any rain you don’t want send it my way.

Supplies: All stamps by Hero Arts — I love this new dainty flower, it’s called Decorative Branch. The yellow notecard is also from Hero Arts. I used ColorBox Thistle ink for the flowers– from their new Easter Eggs Petal Points set — and Ancient Page Chocolate ink for the message. Ribbon from my stash.

  1. Hey, you!!! I crocheted avidly as a teenager, back in high school! How sweet is this?! I knit now, because it’s easier on my bum arm (tendinitis), but, all I know to do is one stitch, and I make scarves. That’s it. Just scarves. Dunno how to make anything else–err, and mebbe I don’t wanna! LOL! I remember how long it took me too make afghans . . . eek! I *love* your crocheted posy here, Lisa! It is so charming and sweet! Hmmmm . . . I think I could even remember enough to do one of these posies . . . I hope you are well, and that rain is coming, if not arrived already. We’ve had a lot here, but today, the sun shines on Whidbey Island, and my cherry blossom trees are in full bloom–made me think of you and smile BIG! I even took a pic, but, I’m nowhere near the photographer you are . . .

  2. I love this card! The hand crocheted posy makes it so personal and perfect. I wonder if I have what it takes to pick up knitting again. I never learned to crochet. I lived in England for awhile and all my English friends would laugh at my knitting technique. It was all backwards.
It is amazing what this rain has done for our landscapes. Everything is so green. It won’t be long before the prairie is in full bloom. Already spotted a bit of Indian paintbrush in bloom. Redbuds have been awesome this year.
I can’t wait to see your new Hero Arts designs!

This card is great. My Grandma Winterton taught me to crochet and sew too. It has been a long time since I have tried it. That looks like the beginning of a grannys square. Did you ever make those. I made oodles. Great idea.

  4. Hey, Lisa cute card. I’ll have to tell my kids that I am not the only one in this world that will take anything and put it on a card! Wink. Serioulsy, I love to crochet and my grandma taught me when I was a girl too. Nice colors too! My email address is slightly different from the last time I commented on your blog.
