Shinkansen

Here’s a video of  some Japanese high speed bullet trains — or Shinkansen — taken on our way back to Tokyo from a trip to Mt. Fuji/Hakone.  Here goes:

I loved riding the trains — so fast (130 mph) yet smooth as silk.  For comparison, it took us 2 hours and 20 minutes on the Shinkansen from Tokyo to Kyoto.  If we had taken the bus it would have been 7-8 hours.  Normal trains would have been about 4 hours.  Oh and — there is always a Shinkansen + they are on time!  During rush hour, a train departs Tokyo station every 6 minutes. Wow.

Wish we had one here! But first, I guess I better start slow — ha ha — and lobby for a bike path to downtown…

Oh and! There are little stands selling the best green tea ice cream in the stations! YUM.  This stand wasn’t in a station, but back in Tokyo in the fabric district — more on that yumminess later.

And here’s the best shot I have of Mt. Fuji — aka Fuji-san — taken on a Shinkansen from Tokyo to Kyoto.  More on that later, too.

Really craving some green tea now…I think I’ll go make some.
