Mmmm, Starbucks peppermint mocha! (recipe)

I love Starbucks peppermint mocha, mmmmmm.  But,  ’round here, they only have them during the holidays until the syrup runs out — bummer!  Plus I never seem to make it there — I usually drink coffee at home and don’t think of it until they’re long gone.

So, when I heard that they actually sell the syrup I got all excited and ran out to get some.  Luckily, they had two bottles left — and they were on sale — $2.99 — score! — so I snapped them up.  I decided to give one to my sister.  So, of course I had to make her a little card

Here’s a recipe from RecipeZarr if you are lucky enough to find peppermint syrup.  Since I don’t have an espresso machine, I modified it to use regular brewed coffee + an 8 oz mug:

Yummy Peppermint Mocha

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 tablespoons powdered baking cocoa stirred with a little boiling water to form a syrup  (I used Scharffen Berger from when I went on the factory tour one day — they are near the old Hero Arts building)
  • 1 1/4 teaspoons peppermint syrup
  • 8 oz mug, filled 3/4 of the way with brewed coffee
  • Warm milk (frothed if you have a frother, I don’t)

Directions

  1. Stir the baking powder + peppermint syrup into the coffee.
  2. Add warm milk to fill the mug
  3. Enjoy!  Mmmmmm.

I also got her a gift card while I was there — they were out of  gift card holders, so they gave me this cute little paper cup to put it in, and I had to embellish it!  I put the recipe inside the cup, too.  I was going to add something to the front, but then I liked how the dots went with the card so left it plain.

Chris, if you read this, act surprised when it comes in the mail — ha!

Oh and!  If you can’t find peppermint syrup at your Starbucks — I did find this one on Amazon. I’ve never tried it, but it seems pretty similar from the ingredients.

Okay, this has made me crave a peppermint mocha — off to make one now.

Supplies: Coffe mug, “thanks a latte” stamps and little heart gems from A Muse.  Woodgrain background (stamped in pale pink) from Hero Arts.  Bazzill white polka dot ribbon.  Patterned paper by Little Yellow Bicycle.  Colored pencils by Prismacolor.

  1. How Cute is that???  Love the polka dots on the cup!   I LOVE the peppermint White Choc Mochas…(I have to get them to reduce the syrup shots as otherwise they are too sweet)….but love them!
I’m going to head to my starbucks today and see if I can get some syrup for me and some caramel for Dale…

  14. I absolutely love making mini cards…I think I like them more than full-sized cards!  This one is precious!

  15. How cute to use the cup as the gift card holder.  The syrup (Torani) comes in tons of flavors and can sometimes be found in the grocery store or at Cost Plus (if you have one nearby).

  16. The woodgrain background is so cool. I love what you created.  The bling in the steam is a great touch.

Thanks for the info about the syrup. I had no idea you could buy it @ Starbucks.

  17. This sounds absolutely delish…maybe when I’m off my diet!!!! Hey, I left you some awards, check out my blog! :D

  18. I love that little card! I can identify with that urge…I used to love the Chocolate Mint Italian Cream Sodas at my local coffee place (I think Starbucks has them too) and never bought them because of the expense. Bought some syrup and can have them whenever I want, though I still have nearly 3/4 of a bottle left!

btw: the syrup I have is Torani, which I like a lot. You can get it at World Market (Cost Plus), which someone else mentioned and its flavors often come in sugar-free–bonus! :)

  19. So super cute, Lisa!  I love it–and,  I love Starbucks peppermint mochas, too! :^)

  20. I love your blog.it is so nice to check it out as I start my day. Thanks so much for the info on Perrmint latte.
