Oh deer!

I’ve been on a real deer kick lately — just can’t get enough of them!  And I’ve been hoarding this sweet patterned paper with deer prints on it from Sassafras Lass — I think I’ve had it for 3 months now?

I finally broke down and used it when I saw Dawn’s color challenge this week — isn’t it perfecto?

Thanks so much Dawn!  Now I gotta use up the scraps so I don’t hoard them, too!

Supplies: Deer die cut by QuicKutz — I cut it out of brown velvet paper from The Paper Company.  It’s really soft + velvety and hard to photo — check out the differences between the first photo and the second, just by changing the angle it looks different.  I just want to sit here and pet it.  The “hello deer friend” comes from the Design Accents A Little Note Design set by Hero Arts.  Ribbon by American Crafts.  Patterned paper by Sasafras Lass — it comes with the big scallop, I just cut the base card to match and then rubbed the edges with brown ink.

  1. That paper was perfectly hoarded for this challenge!  It’s wonderful.  I love that scalloped edge.

  2. Oh Deer is right…this is absolutely fantabulous!  I have a thing for Sassafras…love it and what you’ve done with it :)

  3. Wow Lisa! This is super cute! I think my favorite thing about your work is how bright it all is! The colors always just “pop” out at you!

I’m sure the lighting you use helps too. I saw you mention in your photo section that you use natural toned lighting, which I think I may be able to do myself… But I definitely don’t have the camera artillary you’re working with! lol! Can you recommend an affordable but really GREAT camera for just your every day capturing of moments and some craft photography?

Oh! Did you hand cut your jumbo scalloped edge?

Thanks for sharing… I’m going to stop rambling now… :-)

    1. Hi Sarah! Thanks for your comments!

I think for craft photography, the important thing is to be able to set your white balance. Most cameras let you do this — just have to dig around in the manual! It’s nice to be able to focus close on something too, but you can always crop it after you take the photo so that’s not a huge biggie. Not sure what your price range is, but I just got a Canon G10 and I LOVE it! It’s a fully automatic point and shoot, but there’s also manual mode so you can focus on a specific area if you want. And it has 14.5 megapixels or something like that, so you can crop your photos and get still get tons of details.

And yep I hand cut the jumbo scalloped edge on the card base — the Sassafras Lass paper has that scallop border, so I just followed it. :)

      Hope that helps!
