Yarn flower pin birthday card!

Today is my friend Sally’s birthday! (Happy birthday Sally! I’m sending this card to you on Monday!) Sally loves pink, flowers, hearts. Oh and pink. And hearts. And did I mention flowers? Ha ha!

She’s also the genius behind the Hero Arts fabric flower pins.

So, I wanted to make her a card that combined all three of her faves. Here’s what I came up with!

I broke out my Clover “Hana-Ami” Flower Loom to make the flower pin. I’ve had it for a while now — got it at the quilt shop down the street. I’ve been waiting to try it!

The flower loom is so easy to use. Now I can’t wait to make some more flowers!

Resources (other than the flower loom): Basic Grey notecard that I’d been hoarding forever.  Pink flower with the hearts, yellow felt flower button, and happy birthday message from the Life of the Party stamp set all by Hero Arts. I glued them together with fabric glue. Yellow Japanese masking tape from my stash. I used rich cocoa Momento ink by Tsukineko to stamp the message, and then edged the papers with Scattered Straw Distress Ink. The scallop border photo overlays are by Katrina at Pugly Pixel.

Would you like to see more flowers made with the loom? It’s really neat-o — it comes with a bunch of different looms that all snap to a base. Plus there’s even a lid to keep everything together. I’ve been on the hunt for a good flower loom since I saw an article about them in Martha Stewart’s magazine a few years ago. If you know of any other looms I’d love to hear!

Hope you have a great weekend,

  2. I had a flower loom in the 70s and found another still in its packaging at a car boot sale a couple of years ago. Haven’t made any flowers for some time but you’ve inspired me to get weaving again with this gorgeous card Lisa. My loom is a ‘Multi Fleur Loom’ from Studio Twelve in California – I’m in the UK though and it was distributed here by HG Twilley Ltd. I’ll post a pic on my blog.
