Oh So Lovely

Hi everyone, how’s your week been so far? Mine is not-so-good — my Gran is in the hospital. :( I’m going to go visit her and wanted to make a bunch of cards to take. (Because, well, that’s what we cardmarkers do, eh?) But it’s hard for me to make cards when I’m sad. (Do you have that problem too?)

I tried to come up with something, but it just wasn’t happening.

But then I came across the Tuesday Trigger over at Moxie Fab World — it’s Oh So Lovely, check it out:

(Color palette created using Colour Lovers — love that!)

I just loved the colors, and the succulent! Oh wow! I have a whole windowsill of succulents, I’ll have to take a photo sometime.

After swooning over the colors, the next thing I noticed was the chair. Oh I’d love to have that chair! (It would go perfectly in the room that has all the succulents in the window.)

I rustled around in my stamps and found a chair stamp by Hero Arts — the wheels started turning — and here’s what I came up with:

I had so much fun doing making the flowers — I couldn’t seem to stop!

I’d had an idea to make them using the kissing technique and then crumpling them and sanding them for an extra shabby chic look — just like the chair.

Here’s a before and an after of a flower and a little how-to:

  • First, I inked up the flower  using rose bud ink (all supplies at the end of the post)
  • Next, I inked up the envelope background stamp with sand ink  (this is one of my favorite stamps, so versatile)
  • Notice there’s no actual stamping just yet!
  • Then I took the inked flower stamp and stamped it on the inked envelope background stamp
  • Now for the stamping: I stamped the flower on a scrap of a poppy notecard from Hero Arts.
  • So now for the fun part! I cut out the flower, crumpled it up, and then sanded it.  Hero Arts’ notecards are white core — the color is actually printed on white cardstock.  The sanding reveals the pink ink that seeped into the white core — how cool is that?

Oh and! Shari did a super video of the kissing technique that you can check out if you’re more of a visual type of stamper.

Resources: All stamps by Hero Arts: envelope pattern (one of my faves, and it’s 25% off this week only!), chair background, sweet threads labels (for the small flower), sweet threads set (for the bigger flower), wish you were here (for the message). I stamped the chairs on some sweet threads paper by BasicGrey. (Note: All sweet threads papers and stamps are coming in April — love this whole line so much.) Rose bud and Tangelo Momento ink by Tsukineko. Walnut stain ink by Ranger (for the chair and the message).  Soft sand ink, pearls, and orange notecard scraps also by Hero Arts. I think that’s everything, whew.

Thanks so much to Cath and the Moxie Fab team for the trigger, it really helped me get stamping. I made some more cards for my Gran too — will share in the next few days.

Hugs to all,
