With Deepest Sympathy

As a cardmaker, sympathy cards are the hardest cards that I make. I try to keep them on the simple side so that I can get them done and in the mail, and that’s what I did here on this card for my cousin.

His wife passed away recently from cancer and I’m getting all teary just thinking about it.

But, back to the card.

I started off by making a base card out of watercolor paper — I use an inexpensive paper when I’m using it for a base card. Then I just stamped the Mondo Wildflowers and the sentiment with versafine onyx black and then heat embossed everything with clear powder. Just had to add that the Altenew Sentiment Strips set is a great one to have in your toolbox — there’s a sentiment for everything and the font will never go out of style.

Then got out my new Altenew metallic watercolor set, mixed the pinks and blues with some Daniel Smith colors to make them a little darker and then splashed the paint on. These metallics are so pretty and shimmery you all — photos just can’t quite capture the magic.

I added a few highlights of gold metallic, some sequins and that was that.

This is beautiful. I love those sentiment strip stamps from Altenew and use them lots. I’ve been resisting the metallic watercolors from Altenew, but wonder how long that will last!
