Hope you all had a good long weekend! Here’s what I was up to:
Saturday I bummed around the house and recovered from work last week — it was busy busy!
Sunday I went for a bike ride in the morning, then Jason and I went to the Wildflower Center. It started raining as soon as we got there — so no pictures — but we had fun walking in the rain.
Monday we went for a good long hike — about 4 hours — at the Balcones Canyonlands National Wildlife Refuge. We didn’t see a single soul while we were hiking — it was great!
You start out hiking through the woods, then end up on this neat plateau
Lots of wildflowers. A front came in with welcoming cool breezes, but no rain!
We’ve been getting tons of rain lately, so we just had to do the creek trail. This was the most water I’ve ever seen in it!
My first movie — totally forgot that feature was on the camera — was wishing there was some way to record the sound of the water.
Another rarity — we saw a Vermillion Flycatcher — they’re marked “rare” on the Refuge checklist! AND, it is the first recorded instance of them nesting on the Refuge — our friend Diane found the nest!
As we were heading back home I asked J to stop so I could get one last picture
What a great weekend!
What a bird-find, that’s fabulous! And to find the nest is even more exciting. I love reading your Blog, Lisa. It puts me in such a happy, calm place — definitely needed with 2 teens and a toddler screaming in the background! We’re packing up this Sunday for our 2-day drive to Fairfield TX for our own little slice of heaven. I might print one of your photos to focus on in the car so I can find my happy place in the midst of the storm in the back seats — kind of like during labor, LOL! Have a great week.
Love the gurgling sound of the water in the creek, very soothing!!!
