On Sunday, April 30 we spent part of the day at Jepson Prairie Reserve with some great friends, Tom and Louise!
Jepson Prairie is in the Sacramento Valley near Dixon, California. Did you know that California was once 25% prairie? Much like Texas, the fertile prairie has been lost to agriculture and urban development.
It was so beautiful there. And so special.
The gold flowers are called “Goldfields” and the white ones are “Meadow foam”. The whole prairie was covered in mima mounds — the tops of the mounds were covered in non-native grasses while the valleys were filled with native wildflowers.
More pictures from the great day that we had with Tom and Louise later, so stay tuned! In the meantime, for more info on vernal pools, check out this link!
What a day with Lisa and Jason. Tom and I loved every minute.
Nice picture and looking forward to more.
