A card for my “deer” Dad!

Hello my “deers”! How are you this fine Monday? Do you have snow? Sure wish that we did, but that’s pretty rare here in Texas. So I have to make do with stamping some instead, like this snowy pocket card I made for my Dad!

(Dad, if you are reading this, no peeking!)

(And just in case you peeked, that Starbuck’s gift card is NOT for you — I know how much you hate coffee, ha! You’ll have to wait until Christmas to see your real gift card, HA!)

The card is over on the Hero Arts blog today, yay! I had the hardest time deciding what photo to use for some reason. The first one is really clean and snowy looking…

…but this second photo seems more “manly” somehow. Even though it’s the exact same card and background.

And, it was really hard to capture the frosty goodness of the Rock Candy Distress Stickles.

So, which of the first two photos is *your* fave? I’d love to hear! And, if you want to see which one I finally ended up going with then click on over to the Hero Arts blog!

Oh and! There’s a new 2012 stamp on there, too! :)

Merry merry,

  1. I think I like the second one best. You’re right about it being more “manly”. Maybe because of the shadows inside the card and the background looks darker making the photo bolder. But I like both pictures and the card is perfect! Hope your Dad loves it. Pretty sneaky putting a Starbucks gift card in there for now and I love the way it peaks out from behind the trees. Off to check out the Hero Arts blog. Merry Christmas!

  2. Lisa this is AMAZING!!! That winter scene is one of my favorite Hero Stamps and I used that background to create the board cards!!! I might just have to lift this idea for my dad!!! Love it!!! Rock Candy looks so cool too! :)

  3. I like the first photo best. I think it really shows off all the great features that you’ve put into the card. Also love the detail shot. May I ask how you colored the trees? I love the painterly effect you got on them. It’s a beautiful card and I think anyone, male or female, would be happy to receive it.

    1. Hi Andrea! Thanks so much for your kind comments — really made me smile! To color the trees, I just placed the stamp rubber side up on my work table, then colored it with water based markers (Momento markers from Tsukineko), then I gave it a light mist with water. You can find all of the materials and instructions over on the Hero Arts blog. Hope that helps! :)

  4. Oh what a fab card for your dad, Lisa! Wonderful design and the background is so pretty – love that new stamp! I love the way you have coloured the trees and added all the yummy sparkle! I’m sure your dad will love it:)

The first two photos are both gorgeous. I like the way the card really pops in the second one because of the darker surroundings but I think the first one shows the dimension, gorgeous colouring on the trees and pretty background more. I always love seeing detailed shots too so it’s great to get up close with the third photo. We had some flurries of snow last week, but much and all as my little fella wants snow to help Santa on his journey here, it doesn’t look like we’re going to have any this week.

  5. Hi Lisa! LOVE this beautiful card! Wow – so clever the way you cut the pocket!

Here in Minnesota, we normally have lots of snow by now (last year about 2 feet!) This year we don’t have a speck of it. So strange, but I’m not complaining either. It gets difficult to get around and can be scary too.

Hoping you and J have a beautiful Christmas! Hugs! :)

  6. Lisa, this card is so beautiful. Love the colors you chose and the clever pocket! :)

  7. What an amazing look Lisa! I’d have to vote for pic#1 – i think it shows off the colors more. #2 is nice cuz you get more of the woodgrain BG. TFS! :)
