Hi there and welcome to my stop on the Altenew Metallic Watercolor Release Blog Hop! I’m so glad you’re here!
These new colors are so pretty you all! And I love that them come in a metal tin with full size pans — check it out:
As soon as I saw these gorgeous colors I couldn’t wait to swatch them on regular watercolor paper and black cardstock — here are my swatches!
Then I had to put them through their paces by making both a warm and a cool card using the Leaf Clusters Dies — oh my! These colors work beautifully together.
Warm Fall Leaves
First up, the warm card — I think this is perfect for fall or Thanksgiving, but I needed some birthday cards so I went with that sentiment instead. Leaves are just so very versatile!
Here’s a closeup so you can see it better — it’s so hard to capture that shimmer!
Oh and! The middle leaf was cut out of black cardstock and I think it really steals the show! The other two leaves are on regular watercolor paper.
The black cardstock did curl a little more but I think this just adds to it!
Cool Leaves
Now for the cool version — it always amazes me how just changing the colors on a card can totally switch up the mood.
Once again I think that black cardstock leaf steals the show!
I can’t wait to use these watercolors on other kinds of cardstock — I bet navy would be so pretty! Or dark green for a Christmas card.
And that was that! I had a video for you but it didn’t come out, darn! Before I go I wanted to share a little tip for using these — when you first get your paints out, drop some clean water on the pans of the colors you’d like to use — by the time you die cut your leaves the color will be softened up and so rich and dreamy!

Ooh your swatches look so good and those cards, wow! Love the shimmer! <3
I would never have thought to use the cool combination of colors for leaves. Very pretty, thank for the inspiration!
Oh, how fun to see a contrast of colors with your two cards! Thanks for the tips and inspiration.
Super fun cards – love seeing warm and cool colors! Thanks for the inspiration!
Simple design with a huge impact, love it!
These colours do work wonderfully on your cards. A must have for all crafters!
Awesome Metallic watercolors and Gorgeous creations! I agree that the central leaves on black cardstock steal the show!
So pretty, both of them! I know they’re even more beautiful in real life! Looking forward to having them at my house!!
Love your card samples. The color palettes you used show how much variation there is with this paint set and it shimmers with all card colors. The curl of the black card base definitely adds to the card. Love them .
Lovely – the one done in the warmer colours looks like distressed metal. I do love these new paints – thanks for the inspiration!
Well that was genius to use one piece of black cardstock on each card. Really does “steal the show.” I am going to try this.
Wow, thanks for sharing your knowledge. I so want that paint set.
The inspiration is just beautiful! The new metallic watercolors are amazing! I love the gorgeous colors. I also love that they can be used even on black paper!

Lisa, I love your leaves, and what a great idea to use black card stock on top of regular! It really looks beautiful!
Your cards are lovely. I also love your swatches. They would make a fun card too. I do like that metallic paint on the black. Shows up so well.
Beautiful shimmer with these amazing metallic water color paints. Love them, can’t wait to play with them.
