12 Tags / Day 9: Sleigh Ride

Out of all of the carols in the 12 Tags of Christmas challenge, THIS one was the hardest for me. Why? Because I didn’t have a sleigh stamp.

What to do? What to do…

Then suddenly, I knew! Paraphrasing The Grinch: “If I can’t find a sleigh, I’ll make one instead!” And that’s just what I did!

I started off by making a base tag out of white cardstock and then die cutting the Starry Night background. Then I stamped the deer from Over the River in black, grabbed my trusty .3 mm micron pen and practiced a few sleighs on scratch paper. Pro tip: stamp the deer on scratch paper too so you’ll have the right scale. I got cold feet so I lightly sketched a sleigh on the tag in pencil before finally drawing it on with the pen.

Then I added some sleigh bells to the deer and a red nose and yep I was totally laughing all the way!

One of the best things about micron pens is that they’re waterproof, so I added some gold metallic highlights with the Altenew Metallic pan set — just can’t get enough of it lately!

Finally, I trimmed the bottom of the tag and stamped some peppermint stripes with the Painted Stripes and rockin’ red, and added some glitter under the sleigh and deer to ground ’em. Can you say jingle all the way? :)
